Easy setup.

After installing AirPort Utility from the CD included with AirPort Extreme, you’re just a few short steps away from creating the ultimate Wi-Fi environment. For Mac users, AirPort Utility is located in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder. And Windows users access AirPort Utility by selecting Start > All Programs > AirPort.

Creating a wireless network

  1. Connect your DSL or cable modem to the Ethernet WAN port on the AirPort Extreme.
  2. Open AirPort Utility, select your base station, and click Continue.
  3. Follow the onscreen instructions to create your new network.

Sharing a USB hard drive

Once you’ve set up your wireless network, it’s easy to share files with everyone on your network by connecting an external hard drive to AirPort Extreme.

  1. Connect the hard drive to the AirPort Exreme USB port.
  2. Open AirPort Utility, select your base station, and click Manual Setup.
  3. Choose Disks in the toolbar and enable file sharing in the File Sharing tab.

Connecting a printer

Connect a printer to the AirPort Extreme USB port for everyone on your network to access. If your USB port is in use by another device, that’s OK. Just connect a USB hub to AirPort Extreme and attach your devices to the hub.

Mac OS X Windows

To print using Mac OS X v10.3 or v10.4

  1. Open Printer Setup Utility (located in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder).
  2. Select the printer from the list.

To print using Mac OS X v10.5

  1. Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu and click Print & Fax.
  2. Click Add (+) and select your printer from the list.
  3. Click the Add button.
  1. Install Bonjour for Windows from the CD included with AirPort Extreme.
  2. Follow the onscreen instructions for connecting your printer.
