Easy setup.
After installing AirPort Utility from the CD included with AirPort Extreme, youre just a few short steps away from creating the ultimate Wi-Fi environment. For Mac users, AirPort Utility is located in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder. And Windows users access AirPort Utility by selecting Start > All Programs > AirPort.
Creating a wireless network
- Connect your DSL or cable modem to the Ethernet WAN port on the AirPort Extreme.
- Open AirPort Utility, select your base station, and click Continue.
- Follow the onscreen instructions to create your new network.
Creating a guest network
Setting up a guest network is simple.
- When setting up your wireless network, check the box next to Enable Guest Network.
- Give your guest network a name for example, Johns Guests.
- Choose a password for your guests, or leave it blank for no password at all.
Sharing a USB hard drive
Once youve set up your wireless network, its easy to share files with everyone on your network by connecting an external hard drive to AirPort Extreme.
- Connect the hard drive to the AirPort Extreme USB port.
- Open AirPort Utility, select your base station, and click Manual Setup.
- Choose Disks in the toolbar and enable file sharing in the File Sharing tab.
Connecting a printer
Connect a printer to the AirPort Extreme USB port for everyone on your network to access.* If your USB port is in use by another device, thats OK. Just connect a USB hub to AirPort Extreme and attach your devices to the hub.
To print using Mac OS X v10.5 or v10.6
- Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu and click Print & Fax.
- Click Add (+) and select your printer from the list.
- Click the Add button.
To print using Mac OS X v10.3 or v10.4
- Open Printer Setup Utility (located in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder).
- Select the printer from the list.
- Install Bonjour for Windows from the CD included with AirPort Extreme.
- Follow the onscreen instructions for connecting your printer.
